A Guide to Technical Colleges in Southwest Georgia

Technical or vocational colleges are a great alternative to a traditional university if you’re looking for a faster track to your career. This article describes some of the programs offered, tuition rates and fees, and other information for five technical colleges in Southwest Georgia. Unless otherwise noted, all college admission requirements for these schools are a high school diploma or GED, SAT or ACT test scores or taking the college’s placement test, the COMPASS, and an application fee that will be listed with each separate college since they’re not all the same. Admission is available for Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer semesters.

Albany Technical College [ www.albanytech.edu ] is located in Albany, Georgia. The application fee for Albany Tech. It is $15. Full time is considered 12 or more credit hours, and the tuition rate is $513 per semester, part-time (less than 12 credit hours) students will pay $36 per credit hour, and that doesn’t include $81 in additional fees. Other fees may be required depending on the courses you are enrolled in. Out of state tuition is doubled, except for residents of Barbour, Henri, and Houston Counties in Alabama, which are eligible for in-state tuition rates. International tuition is four-times the in-state tuition rates.

Albany Tech. has nine student organizations and clubs available to students. They offer 24 degrees, 43 diplomae, and 14 certificate programs in healthcare, professional services, industrial/technical fields, and computers and business. Albany Technical College is convenient to Dougherty, Lee, Terrell, Calhoun, Worth, Baker, and Mitchell Counties.

Moultrie Technical College [ www.moultrietech.edu ] is located in Moultrie, Georgia with satellite campuses located in downtown Moultrie, and in Tift, Turner, and Worth Counties. Their application fee is also $15. Full time at Moultrie Tech. is considered to be 15 or more credit hours, and is $681 per semester; part-time (less than 15 credit hours) is $40 per credit hour. There is also $81 in fees and may require other fees depending on the program you are enrolled in. Tuition for non-Georgia residents is doubled, and international is quadrupled.

Moultrie Tech. offers 8 degree, 32 diploma, and 81 certificate programs available in healthcare, professional services, industrial/technical fields, and computers and business, and has seven clubs and organizations available to students.

South Georgia Technical College [ www.southgatech.edu ] is located in Americus, Georgia, with a satellite campus in Cordele, Georgia. The application fee is $20. Diploma and degree programs have a tuition rate of $36 per credit hour, and certificate programs are $54 per credit hour, and there is $105 in additional fees. South Georgia Technical College is also one of only two technical colleges in Georgia to offer on-campus housing. Private and semi-private furnished rooms are available to any student enrolled in for-credit courses. Private rooms are $1,050 per quarter, semi-private rooms are $900 a quarter, and units with one-bedroom and private bath are $1200 a quarter.

There are 14 degrees, 32 diplomas, and numerous certificate programs available at South Georgia Technical College.

Southwest Georgia Technical College [ www.southwestgatech.edu ] is located in Thomasville, Georgia, with satellite campuses in Mitchell and Grady counties. Their application fee is $20. Full time is considered to be 15 credit hours, and is $681 a quarter; part-time (less than 15 credit hours) is $40 per credit hour. Certificate courses are $906 per semester for full time or $55 per credit hour. Additional fees will be required, but vary depending on the courses you are enrolled in. Out of state tuition is doubled, except for residents of Leon, Jefferson, and Gadsden Counties in Florida.

There are five clubs and organizations available at SWGTC, as well as 22 degree, 20 diploma, and 48 certificate programs in healthcare, professional services, industrial/technical fields, and computers and business.

Valdosta Technical College [ www.valdostatech.edu ] is located in Valdosta, Georgia, and also has a workforce development center located in Cook County. The application fee is $15. Tuition rates are $40 per credit hour for degree and diploma programs and $60 for certificate programs. Non-Georgia resident tuition is doubled, and international students will have to pay four times the in-state tuition.

Valdosta Tech. offers 19 degree, 33 diploma, and 76 certificate programs in healthcare, professional services, industrial/technical fields, and computers and business.

These five technical colleges also offer GED classes and testing, and continuing education courses for personal enrichment or professional development.
